A Stitch in Time II (Week 6)
By Kent Denver School
Are you into fashion, fabric, or sewing? Would you want to know how to create and make your own clothes or costumes? Fashion enthusiasts will take a journey through time, learning about the clothes people all over the world have worn, designed and made! Students will learn how ancient humans created and dyed the first textiles, engage in discussions about the time when fabric and clothing was worth more than gold, find out what in the world a bustle is, and so much more!! Students will be inspired by fashion shows and exhibitions from top designers and artists, develop their own design and construction skills from several historic eras and create a final project to show off at our end of class runway show! This is a standalone class. Students do not need to take A Stitch In Time I to participate in this course. Sack lunch option available for purchase at check-out.
Teacher Bio: Marcy Szymanski is the Director of Costumes and a technical theater instructor at Kent Denver school. She has a Master of Fine Arts degree in costume design and over thirty years of experience in theatre, both on and off the stage, which gives her unique insight into how costumes must function for the body—including fit, movement, comfort, practicality and speed of changes. In addition to costume design and wardrobe management, Marcy has also developed and led sewing classes for students and adults through the city of Denver's Arts & Culture department. This is her second year with Summer at KDS and she's looking forward to once again working with campers and helping foster their passion for the arts.
