Costuming for Hadestown Two Weeks (Two Weeks)
By Kent Denver School
Are you interested in fashion, history, art, sewing, or crafting? Do you want to wear all of the costumes showcased by characters in every show? Or maybe you love theater, but prefer to stay behind the scenes? Then the costume team is the place for you! Join us for a two-week intensive where students will create the costumes and work as wardrobe crew for Hadestown! Costume creators will work through the full design process, including sketching, illustrating, sewing, decorating, and fitting, as well as assisting backstage with wardrobe and costume changes during performances. No previous experience required!
Teacher Bio: Marcy Szymanski is the Director of Costumes and a technical theater instructor at Kent Denver. She has a Master of Fine Arts degree in costume design and over thirty years of experience in theater, both on and off the stage, which gives her unique insight into how costumes must function for the body—including fit, movement, comfort, practicality and speed of changes. In addition to costume design and wardrobe management, Marcy has also developed and led sewing classes for students and adults through the city of Denver's Arts & Culture department. This is her second year with Summer at KDS and she's looking forward to once again working with campers and helping foster their passion for the arts.
