Creative Engineering and Design
By Kent Denver School
Oh, you better hold onto your britches because we are going straight into inventing mode! Over the course of a week, students will learn to use code and microcontrollers to sense and interact with physical objects in the KDS state-of-the-art Makerspace. Working individually and in groups, students will design and fabricate kinetic contraptions by utilizing physical computing and the engineering design process. Students will explore physical computing through a series of small projects (covering light, motion, sound, and sensors) and their work will culminate in creating their own inventions that showcase movement, such as robotic arms, animatronic faces, or any other project that students decide to pursue.
Teacher Bio: Cody Candler joined KDS in 2022 and teaches engineering, design, and product development. Prior to working at KDS, he founded and served as the CEO of EdBoard Technologies, a startup that developed a new tool for teaching circuitry. Cody also worked as the director of product design for a local furniture company. Cody studied at the University of Colorado Boulder where he received a BS in integrated design engineering (with an emphasis on education) and a Masters in Creative Technologies and Design. Cody’s weird opinion: Orange juice doesn’t taste all that bad after brushing your teeth.
