Digital Animation with Scratch

Do you love cartoons, video games, and telling imaginative stories?

In Digital Animation Studio with Scratch, young creators (ages 7–10) spend an exciting week learning the foundational skills of digital storytelling and animation! This camp uses the intuitive, block-based coding platform, Scratch, to bring characters, scenes, and entire narratives to life.

What You’ll Create

At camp, you’ll jump straight into the role of animator, designer, and programmer. Over five days, they will move from simple concepts to complex animated scenes:

Character Design: Learn to create and customize their own sprites (characters) and backgrounds. Sequential Animation: Master the secrets of movement! Campers learn to code characters to glide, jump, dance, and change costumes to simulate realistic motion. Scene Development: Learn how to sequence actions, add dialogue, include sound effects, and design dynamic backgrounds to create a compelling story. Interactive Projects: Develop projects that respond to user input, such as creating a character that moves when a key is pressed or reacts when clicked. Early Arrival/Extended Day: 8am to 9am – $10/day | 3pm to 5:45pm – $28/day Optional Catered Lunch: Monday-Friday, $68.50/week Scratch is the perfect tool for this age group, allowing kids to learn computational thinking and logic without the frustration of complex typing. By snapping visual code blocks together, students quickly grasp fundamental programming concepts—like loops, conditionals, and variables—all while focusing on their creative vision.

This camp is the ideal blend of art, storytelling, and beginner coding, resulting in a gallery of fun, original animated projects they can share with family and friends!

Campers should have at minimum some coding experience with Scratch™, such as having attended at least one week of a Lavner Coding with Scratch camp or similar.
