Recycled Art and Junkyard Wars Combo
By St. Mary's Academy
Join the creative revolution where nothing goes to waste! This unique art camp challenges artists to see beauty in the unexpected and transform the ordinary into the extraordinary. This week, we embrace our Loretto School Value of respect to repurpose, remodel, and rethink as campers dive into a world of recycled and reclaimed materials. Each morning, you’ll use cardboard, plastic, bottles, bottle caps, fabric strips, and old magazines to create sculptures, collages, and mixed media pieces. Forget the traditional art supplies! You will learn to see potential in discarded materials and make something inspiring out of them.
In the afternoon, art meets engineering. You will be challenged to transform everyday trash and recycled materials into an incredible contraption. In the camp, you will design, build, and decorate a unique machine capable of moving an object without using your hands. Throughout the week, you participate in fun mini-challenges like building the tallest tower or a gravity-powered car, and learn essential concepts in simple machines and the physics of motion. The camp ends with a showcase where teams present and test their inventions.
