Survive! (Week 3)
By Kent Denver School
What if you were stranded on the roadside during a winter storm, lost in the woods, or injured while skiing the back bowls? Would you know what to do? Maybe you have imagined what it would be like to be Brian in Hatchet trying to survive in the Canadian wilderness or Katniss Everdeen surviving in the woods outside District 12 in The Hunger Games? If so, then THIS is the summer program for you! Students will learn to be prepared for any outdoor survival situation. They will learn how to make survival fires and shelters, find direction in the wilderness, safely use a survival knife, purify water, signal for help, and meet their basic survival needs. This entirely hands-on program will be conducted mostly outdoors on Kent Denver's 200-acre campus. Students will not only walk away with a starter survival kit, but they will also take home a new set of practical skills that will enable them to both survive and help them become more self-reliant and confident. Be Prepared. Be Trained. Be Ready.
Please note this course is the same course as that offered in Week 2, although students who return for the second course will have the opportunity to delve deeper into the skills we learn and even help lead some of the activities.
