The Power of Water (Two Weeks)
By Kent Denver School
This two-week intensive course will explore a deep understanding of the significance of water in Colorado and the West. The class will conduct field work and learn experientially while traveling in Colorado. From visiting a Denver water treatment plant, visiting the headwaters of the Arkansas and rafting Browns Canyon, and visiting and camping near the Headwaters of the Colorado River, students will 'see' water differently after taking this class. Students will also have the opportunity to meet with a water lawyer, different river conservancies throughout the state, as well as the Chief of Resource Management at Great Sand Dunes National Park. Water is the through-line to appreciate Colorado's history and possible solutions to issues being caused by climate change. Additionally, students will have the opportunity to tell their own 'Water Story' by the conclusion of the class. Expect to do some camping, float down a river, and be pushed out of your comfort zone!
