Ready, Race, Design
By Kent Denver School
“I don’t know if the car can handle the stress! I think the engine is going to blow! Eject, eject, EJECT!!!” - All right, let’s see if we can fix that. Over the course of the week, students will be designing, iterating, and tweaking model vehicles to handle increasingly difficult courses in the KDS state-of-the-art makerspace. Each morning, students will work together to modify our enormous downhill raceway to add new challenging elements. Then, they will break off to design vehicles that can navigate the newly designed course. Can your car handle a jump, rolling boulders, and sand pits? If not, let’s iterate until it can! At the end of each day, campers will compete to determine who has developed the best solution to the challenging track.
Teacher Bio: Cody Candler joined KDS in 2022 and teaches engineering, design, and product development. Prior to working at KDS, he founded and served as the CEO of EdBoard Technologies, a startup that developed a new tool for teaching circuitry. Cody also worked as the director of product design for a local furniture company. Cody studied at the University of Colorado Boulder where he received a BS in integrated design engineering (with an emphasis on education) and a Masters in Creative Technologies and Design. Cody’s weird opinion: Orange juice doesn’t taste all that bad after brushing your teeth.
